Railway Ferry Line Construction Begins

Construction has begun on the Yantai-Dalian railway ferry line, the longest one of its kind in China.

The "railway on the sea", which runs across the Bohai Straits, will cost nearly 2.4 billion yuan (about US$3,000 million) for initial stages, and is due to be completed in 2006.

The ferry will link up three major economic zones--northeast China, the Bohai Rim and the Yangtze River Delta—to revitalize industry in the northeast.

The Yantai-Dalian line, after going through the Yangtouwa channel on fixed tracks, will then board a ferry for the four hour ferry trip.
