Two Russian Tourists Injured by Landmine in Nepal

Two tourists from Russia have sustained injuries in an explosion of an improvised explosive device planted by the anti-government guerrillas in central Nepal, Radio Nepal reported Sunday.

The two tourists were traveling in a car when the incident took place Saturday on the Chehere section of the Arniko Highway, the 115-km-long road linking Kathmandu and Nepal-China border, the state-run radio quoted a local police officer as saying.

The injured Russian tourists have been airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment, the officer added.

They were on their way to the Mount Qomolangma base camp on the Nepali side when the explosion occurred.
