Birthday Photo Show in Beijing
A photo exhibition is being held at the New Oriental Plaza in Beijing until the end of this week to mark the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Japan International Co-operation Agency's China office.

Altogether, 70 photos are on display to give viewers a vivid impression of what the agency has achieved in China.

"We have joined hands with our Chinese partners in many aspects such as fighting against poverty and improving environmental protection," said Junko Saito, an official from the agency.

The agency was established in 1974 as a governmental agency under the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

While Japan's Official Development Assistance functions in China in the form of technical co-operation, grants and yen loans, the agency is responsible for the technical co-operation aspects of the development assistance. So far, China has received 8.77 billion yuan (US$1.06 billion) in technical co-operation funding through the agency, and another 7.97 billion yuan (US$963 million) in grants.
