Winter deepens in China
Adjust font size:

China is getting a blast of winter. Snow has arrived again in the North and Northwest and is continuing to fall in the South. Freezing temperatures are creating havoc on icy roads, and bringing inconvenience to residents.

Beijing is under a blanket of snow today. It's the same for Inner Mongolia and Shaanxi Province.

But with it brings icy conditions on the roads, forcing them to close.

In Jiangxi Province, thousands of vehicles were trapped on a bridge over the Yangtze River. Local observatories have issued fresh alerts, warning of further snow storms and icy roads.

In the south, Hunan Province is experiencing its heaviest and longest snowfall in five years. The freezing temperatures have created dangerous conditions on at least ten expressways. 7-hundred tons of industrial salt is being used to solve the problem.

In Guangxi, temperatures have stayed below zero bringing inconvenience to farming and agriculture.

The Central Observatory is predicting that more heavy snow and rain will arrive over large areas of China on Friday, and throughout the weekend.
