Commemorated on 5 June since 1972, World Environment Day (WED) is targeted to be the people's day for positive action and demonstrates how individual actions can create an exponential impact.

WED is one of the principal vehicles through which the UN stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and encourages political attention and action.

India named Global Host of World Environment Day 2011.

China promotes the theme of "Low-carbon economy and green living" for this year's WED and will launch various activities and campaigns to celebrate it.
