Nanmadol, the 11th tropical storm to hit China this year, weakened to a tropical depression early Wednesday morning after bringing heavy rains to east China's Fujian Province.

Coastal cities in Fujian have been battered by downpours since Nanmadol landed in the city of Jinjiang at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, according to the provincial meterological authority.

Nanmadol weakened to a tropical depression at 5 a.m. Wednesday. It is expected to further weaken before it leaves Jinjiang, the provincial meterological authority said.

Nanmadol has been bringing strong rainfall to the region since Monday, with precipitation expected to last until Friday. Local authorities warned that a large amount of accumulated rainfall may trigger torrential floods and landslides.
