An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale jolted New Britain region, Papua New Guinea at 16:49:20 GMT on Sunday (00:49:20 Hong Kong Time), the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 56.50 km, was initially determined to be at 5.3080 degrees south latitude and 151.5011 degrees east longitude.
