A second case of influenza A/H1N1 was confirmed in French Polynesia, Radio New Zealand International reported on Friday.

French Polynesia's Ministry of Health said a Polynesian person who recently returned from a holiday in New Zealand has tested positive for the H1N1 virus.

The individual has been admitted to hospital and put in isolation while the people who have been in contact with that person are being watched closely.

This is the first case of influenza A/H1N1 affecting a resident in French Polynesia.

An American tourist was detected with the virus when she arrived in Tahiti at the beginning of June.
