Russia Monday delivered a new batch of humanitarian aid to China following last month's devastating earthquake which has claimed nearly 70,000 lives.

Two Il-76 cargo planes of the Emergency Situations Ministry, each carrying some 30 tons of tents, departed from Ramenskoye near Moscow at 17:17 (1317GMT) and 17:30 (1330GMT) Moscow time, Itar-Tass cited the ministry as saying.

Russian Emergency Situations Ministry has so far delivered nearly 232 tons of emergency aid, as well as rescue and medical teams, to southwestern China's Sichuan Province, which was rocked by the 8-magnitude quake on May 12.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev promised to offer more aid to China during his first visit to Beijing last month after taking office on May 7.
