Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in Beijing on Wednesday, expressing China's support for the United Nations' role on global issues.

The United Nations are the important mechanism for the international community to enhance cooperation, tackle challenges and practice multilateralism, Yang told Ban.

"The role of the United Nations is irreplaceable, "Yang said.

He said China supports the UN's efforts on continuing its reform, raising capabilities to tackle global threats and challenges, and better implementing responsibilities of the UN Charter.

China backs developing countries to play a bigger role in the UN, Yang added.

Ban said the United Nations appreciate China's positive and constructive attribution as a permanent member of the Security Council in the international affairs.

He said the UN would like to cooperate with China to properly solve major international and regional issues.

On the issue of climate change, Yang said China has taken a number of measures to tackle climate change and improve environment, and issued a national plan, the National Climate Change Program, to address the climate change issue.

China welcomes the "roadmap" accord reached in Bali, Indonesia last December, and insists on tackling the climate change issue under the framework of sustainable development, Yang said.

He reiterated China holds the principle of "a common but differentiated responsibility", viewing the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change as the main channel to tackle the climate change issue.

The two sides also exchanged views on Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, Middle East and African affairs.
