China and Togo signed in Lome on Tuesday an agreement to set up a Confucius Institute at the University of Lome.

The establishment of a Confucius Institute is conducive to enhancing cultural exchanges between China and Togo, boosting mutual understanding between the two peoples and promoting their friendly cooperation, said Chinese Ambassador Yang Min.

Under the agreement, the Institute will offer Chinese language training to school and university students as well as common citizens, host seminars on Chinese language and culture, and provide counseling to Togolese intending to study in China.
