China attacks Pelosi's proposed resolution on Tibet
Adjust font size:

The resolution recently proposed by the U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tibet is with "ulterior motives", said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu on Monday.

The resolution calls on the Chinese government to end its "crackdown" in Tibet and to enter into a substantive dialogue with the Dalai Lama.

Jiang said the resolution proposed by a few U.S. House representatives neither condemned the mobs who conducted beating, smashing, robbing and burning in Lhasa nor did they denounce the Dalai clique who masterminded and organized violent crimes, it instead blamed the Chinese government and the Chinese people.

"The resolution called white black and was born out of ulterior motives", said Jiang when asked to comment on the resolution.

With regard to the contact between China's central government and the Dalai Lama, she said the policy of the Chinese government has always been consistent and clear.

The Chinese government is willing to continue contacts and talks with the Dalai Lama as long as the Dalai Lama truly abandons advocating "Tibet independence", stops activities aimed at splitting the motherland and current activities to fan and mastermind violent crimes in Tibet and other regions and to sabotage the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games, and admits the fact that Tibet and Taiwan are both inalienable parts of the Chinese territory, said Jiang.

"We urged the relevant U.S. congressmen to respect the truth, give up preconceptions and recognize the true nature of the Dalai clique," she said.

Jiang also asked the congressmen, as political figures, to show due sense of responsibilities, cease putting forward proposals related to Tibet, and refrain from doing anything that may harm the feelings of the Chinese people and China-U.S. relations.
