Pelosi told to stop disturbance of Olympics
Adjust font size:

China on Wednesday urged Nancy Pelosi and some other U.S Congress members to stop disturbing and sabotaging the Beijing Olympics and the torch relay, saying instigators are conscienceless.

Very few people of the U.S. Congress have openly agitated disruption of the Olympic torch relay in San Francisco, disregarding the non-politicization principle of the Games and "completely losing morality and conscience", said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu.

She made the remarks when commenting on a statement by U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi encouraging opposition to the Olympics torch relay in San Francisco.

According to media reports, Pelosi said in the statement that the Chinese government had politicized the Olympic torch relay and expressed support to those who opposed the relay in San Francisco.

The agitation for disruption has "inevitably aroused indignation and condemnation of the whole Chinese people, home and abroad, and the world people with justice", Jiang said.

"Who on earth is politicizing the Olympic torch relay? Who has agitated disruption of the relay in San Francisco once and again? Isn't the truth abundantly clear?" Jiang said.

She said hosting an Olympic Games has been a century's dream of all domestic and overseas Chinese people, and people across the world, including Americans, are looking forward to the Beijing event.

She added that the torch relay in San Francisco is a grand event between China and the United States and the peoples of both countries wish the smooth success of the relay.

"The determination of the Chinese and world people to successfully hold the Beijing Olympic Games is firm and unshakable, and we suggest that the very few U.S. Congress members immediately stop disruption of the Olympics and the torch relay," said Jiang.
