Fresh six-nation plan to be delivered to Iran
Adjust font size:

China, together with the European Union (EU), Russia, Britain, France and Germany, will jointly deliver a fresh plan to Iran Saturday on restarting the six-nation talks, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in Beijing on Thursday.

Beside the plan, a letter from foreign ministers of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany will also be sent to their Iran counterpart, Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said.

Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Jieyi will attend the delivery on behalf of China. EU will be represented by foreign policy chief Javier Solana.

"China hopes relevant parties to strengthen diplomatic efforts, show flexibility and achieve resuming talks at an early date so as to seek a comprehensive and long-term solution to the Iran nuclear issue," Qin said.

According to media reports, Solana will leave Friday afternoon for Tehran to try to persuade Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment program.
