Adjust font size:

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu announced in Beijing on Tuesday that a six-nation foreign ministerial meeting on the Iran nuclear issue is to be held in London on May 2.

Jiang told a press conference that the meeting of China, the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France and Germany would continue their discussion on a plan and related documents to restart the negotiation on the Iran nuclear issue.

Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei will attend the meeting as a special envoy of the Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi. Jiang said China expects the meeting to yield positive results and progress to the resumption of the negotiation in an aim to find a comprehensive and long-term settlement of the Iran nuclear issue.

China would continue to play a constructive role in promoting the resolution of the issue through diplomatic means, she added.

Officials from the same six nations gathered in Shanghai on April 16, which, according to a press release from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, produced an "important consensus" to formulate a plan to restart negotiations.
