Villagers of Gaoling Village take part in the Shehuo show of Lantern Festival celebrations held at downtown Longxian County, northwest China's Shaanxi Province, on Monday, Feb. 9, 2009. Shehuo, evolved through history and matured in the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, is a kind of variety show performed outdoors by local farmers during the traditional Chinese Lantern Festival (the 15th day of the first month of the Chinese lunar calendar). Longxian County, which was called Longzhou in ancient times, gave birth to its own Shehuo over 2,000 years ago. Nowadays, Shehuo performance is called eastern carnival. [Xinhua]
