South Korean interior designer prefers modern Shenzhen
Adjust font size:

When walking on the street, Rey Kim can be easily recognized as he always wears a camera around his neck and takes pictures of the city's modern buildings.

From Seoul in South Korea, Kim is in Shenzhen for one year. "I learned design in Western countries and have been a designer in Seoul for a long time,"Kim said. After visiting Guangzhou, Xiamen and Jilin Province, Kim finally chose Shenzhen to open an interior design business.

He established an interior design company in Nanshan District. "I've come to search for inspiration for my designs since Shenzhen is developing fast and I have access to new things every day,"Kim said. Another advantage for Shenzhen is its proximity to Hong Kong, which is top in design in Asia.

Although Kim's company is small and still in the early stages, he has successfully won some Western and Korean customers. Kim said the key point of design was to have fresh and creative ideas. "I don't want many employees as the key work is in my head,"he said. "I also buy everything for the interior for the customer from beginning to end and carefully ensure good quality to win customers"he said.
So far, Kim has projects like home design, shop design, dental clinic design, hotel design and office design. He mixes Western and Eastern design and has different ideas to match each project.

He hopes Shenzhen will give him more chances for interior design as many buildings are being built in the process of the city's  development. "Shenzhen is going to develop as an international city, so I think international designers will be accepted here,"he said.
