FM: Torch relay to keep going 'in all weathers'

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that the global torch relay of the Olympic Games would continue "in all weathers" to spread the Olympic spirit and ideals of peace, friendship and progress in the world.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu made the remarks at a press conference in Beijing when asked to comment on the smooth torch relay on Wednesday (local time) in San Francisco, California.

She expressed her satisfaction and pleasure over the successful San Francisco torch relay, noting the activity was warmly welcomed by Chinese there and local people and under effective cooperation from the U.S. government and relevant departments in the city.

"There were lots of touching moments," said the spokeswomen.

She said it fully revealed that people in the whole world supports and looks forward to the Olympic Games.

"The Olympic torch relay will continue in all sorts of weathers to spread the Olympic spirit and ideals of peace, friendship and progress in the world," she said.

"No forces can held it back," she said.

"The Chinese people are ready to join efforts with people of all nations to ensure the hosting of a grand high-level world sporting event with characteristics. We have full confidence in it."
