Not long ago, China UnionPay signed a strategic cooperation agreement with China Tourism Bureau to jointly promote the full-scale cooperation between the tourist industry and the bank card industry, including: innovating tourism payment products and endeavoring to construct a corresponding value-added service system, making joint efforts to improve UnionPay cards acceptance conditions within the tourist industry and expanding the uses of UnionPay cards in tourism, and working together to promote travel security involving card safety to create a high-quality, safe and convenient consumption environment for tourists.

"Bank cards are getting more and more involved in people's daily life", said Xu Luode, president of China UnionPay, when interviewed. Currently, there are 64 thousand UnionPay convenient payment spots attached to community convenient stores in more than 200 cities around the country, where card holders can conveniently pay for their utility bills and credit card bills, recharge their mobile phones, and reserve flight tickets, among other activities. Moreover, it is becoming easier to use a bank card. Besides ATMs and POS terminals, bank cards can now be used in many new channels including mobile phone, internet, and fixed-line telephone. Payment can be made whenever and wherever people need to.

The application scope of bank cards is broadening. As the UnionPay network continue to extend from east China to west China, from cities to the vast countryside, and from China to foreign counties, a UnionPay card can be used all over China and in 104 foreign countries and overseas regions that cover the majority of major counties and regions globally. UnionPay cards can be used in more commercial establishments and ATMs in more and more counties and regions. Card holders can enjoy the convenience of traveling anywhere in the world with a UnionPay card.

Xu Luode suggested that convenient and rapid bankcard payment will bring brand-new consumption experience to consumers. People will have a stronger inclination to consume, and their consumption decision will be swifter and consumption behaviors brisker. Credit cards in particular have renewable credit function and can directly increase consumption. "The development space for bank cards in China is still vast. The function of bank cards to promote consumption can be further enhanced", said Xu Luode.
