US pair wins inaugual team gold at FINA Diving World Cup

As an initiative event at the FINA Diving World Cup, the United States divers claimed the first ever team victory on the opening day of the World Cup in Changzhou on Tuesday.

Instead of men's and women's 1-meter springboard at the previous Diving World Cup, the team event made its debut in Changzhou as it requires one male and one female to finish six dives on the 3m springboard and 10m platform.

David Boudia and Haley Ishimatsu of the United States beat the other 11 pairs to win the team gold in 455.35 points. Boudia said: "I performed very well today."

China's Luo Yutong/Wang Hao and Russia's Yulia Koltunova/Ilia Zakharov came second and third, in 442.60 and 422.90, respectively.

The 2010 FINA Diving World Cup, which starts from June 1 - June 7, has attracted 146 divers from 33 countries and regions.

China's Olympic champions Wu Minxia, Chen Ruolin, He Chong and Qin Kai, Russia's veteran Dimitry Sautin, Australia's men's platform Olympic gold medalist Mitcham Mattew, Canada's talent Alexdran Despatie, Mexico's women platform world champion Espinosa Paola will attend the event while Britain's teen star Top Daley is absent.

There are nine events, including team, men's and women's individual and synchronized 3m springboard, men's and women's individual and synchronized 10m platform.

The heats of four synchronized events will start on June 2.
