Ukraine's Bubka joins race for IOC chief post

Legendary pole vaulter Sergei Bubka, who currently presides over Ukraine's National Olympic Committee, yesterday announced his candidacy to succeed International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge.

Bubka won Olympic pole vault gold at Seoul in 1988 and six world championship titles during his career.

Germany's Thomas Bach, Ng Ser Miang of Singapore, Wu Ching-kuo of Chinese Taipei, Puerto Rico's Richard Carrion and Swiss Denis Oswald are the other candidates to date for the post of the IOC chief, vote for which will be held in Buenos Aires in September.
