Stephon Marbury tries to go up against Yi Jianlian in Game 2 of CBA semifinals. |
Defending champions Guangdong Hongyuan managed to win a valuable match in dying minutes on Thursday, beating Beijing Ducks 99-96 to tie the best-of-five semifinal series 1-1 in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league.
With a surprising comeback play from the visiting side who led for a while in the fourth and last quarter, Wang Shipeng's three-pointer helped Guangdong regain the lead with just 13 seconds left.
Yi Jianlian's two free shows in the last moment secured 22 points for the team, and he also got 12 rebounds.
To manage the home victory, Guangdong, eight-time CBA champions who lost 90-87 in the first round, led all the way to end the first half 63-38.
Beijing's Marbury got 10 points but came out the only player of the visitors claiming a double-figure in the first half.
In the third quarter, Guangdong once enlarged their lead to 31 points, but Marbury made all efforts to reap more points before he was sent off for six fouls eight minutes to go.
The 37-year-old former NBA point guard got the game-high 27 points and 5 rebounds. Josh Powell contributed 21 points for the home team.
Before moving back to Beijing on Tuesday, Guangdong will have another home match on Saturday.
