Located in Xi'an, the capital city of Shaanxi Province, Xi'an Jiaotong University was originally founded in Shanghai in 1896 as Nan Yang Public School. In 2000, it merged Xi'an Medical University and Shaanxi Institute of Finance and Economics to form the new Xi'an Jiaotong University. Known as one of the oldest and most prominent institutions of higher learning in China, it's a member of the elite C9 League formed by 9 top universities. The university is a research-oriented comprehensive university offering programs covering ten disciplinary areas to more than 29,017 full-time students. It ranks top in such disciplines as management sciences, business administration and power engineering.
