The first Olympic athlete to test positive for doping use was Hans-Gunnar Liljenwall, a Swedish pentathlete at the 1968 Olympics, following the introduction of anti-doping regulations by the International Olympic Committee in 1967. Liljenwall had drunk some beer to calm his nerves before the pistol shooting.
