Daniel Carroll was a dual Olympic gold medalist winning the rugby event during the 1908 London Olympics for Australia and also winning gold for the United States during the 1920 Antwerp Olympics. Another sportsman, Kakhi Kakhiashvili, won a gold medal in weightlifting at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics for the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, later went on to win another two gold plaques during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and finally won gold while representing Greece during the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
