Founded in 1861 by a private gift of 10 acres in what is now the heart of downtown Seattle, the University of Washington (UW) is one of the oldest public universities on the West Coast of the country. It has three campuses: the largest in University District, Seattle and two others in Tacoma and Bothell in the Seattle metropolitan area. In 2011, the school ranked 25th in reputation among the 100 world best universities in the Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings.
