Born in January 1949 in Germany, Ottmar Hitzfeld is a former striker. Considered one of the greatest football coaches worldwide, he has been elected "World Coach of the Year" twice and is one of only five coaches to win the European Cup/UEFA Champions League with two different clubs. In summer 2008 he took over as coach of the Swiss national team and supervised a successful qualifying campaign for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. On July 1, Hitzfeld announced his retirement after his team fell to Argentina's Angel Di Maria's extra-time goal in the 2014 World Cup.
