The Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration includes Shanghai Municipality, the cities of Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Zhenjiang, Nantong, Yangzhou, Taizhou, Yancheng, Huai’an, Lianyungang, Suqian and Xuzhou in Jiangsu Province, the cities of Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Jiaxing, Huzhou, Shaoxing, Jinhua, Quzhou, Zhoushan, Taizhou and Lishui in Zhejiang Province, and Hefei, Ma’anshan, Wuhu, Chuzhou and Huainan in Anhui Province. With a total population of 170 million, the area occupies around 300,000 square kilometers, accounting for 2.1 percent of China’s territory. As the most developed economic region and the major engine driving the Chinese economy, the Yangtze River Delta contributes one quarter of China’s economic output and one quarter of the country’s industrial added value.
