The Great Wall, continuously built from the third century B.C. to the 17th century A.D., is a series of fortifications comprising walls, passes, watchtowers and fortresses. It was constructed across the historical northern borders of China to form a united defensive system against invasions. The Great Wall is one of the world’s most magnificent ancient defense works, and is of great architectural, historic and strategic significance.
