As the most populous village in Fangshan district, Nanjiao village has a history of more than 600 years. During the Guangxu period of the Qing dynasty (1644-1911), the discovery of large-scale mining of coal resources at the foot of Dafang Mountain attracted many people to settle here. At that time, there were many shops on the old street and caravans of camels drawing coal filed in and out, making Nanjiao village one of the richest villages of its day. Today's Nanjiao village still retains its characteristics from a hundred years ago. The former shops, medical halls, temples, and theater buildings have survived the vicissitudes of time and stand on both sides of the ancient streets and alleys.
