Patala Palace
Located on the Red Hill in the center of Lhasa, Potala Palace is an architectural complex that looks imposing and sacred. Originally, it was built by the King Songtsan Gambo for the Princess Wencheng in Tang Dynasty (618-907). After being rebuilt in the 17th century, it became the residence of the Dalai Lama and his apprentices. Besides, it is the center of religion and politics in Tibet.
The palace was built along the mountain contours. The grand-looking palace was built gracefully and delicately, well representing the unique style of the typical Tibetan architecture. In addition, it is an art palace where countless treasures are collected. Due to its well-known fame, it draws thousands of Tibetan pilgrims and visitors every day.
Admission fee: 100 yuan (Nov. 1-Apr. 30); 200 yuan (May 1-Oct.31); only 2,300 tickets are issued per day.
Transportation: take a taxi or just walk there from the center of Lhasa.
