Situated in Zhongwei City, Shapotou is regarded as one of the five most beautiful deserts in China and one of the ten most amusing places in China.

Situated in Zhongwei City, Shapotou (沙坡头) is regarded as one of the five most beautiful deserts in China and one of the ten most amusing places in China. If you stand on the top of the sand hill, you can see rough deserts, limpid lakes and vast grasslands.

As a national famous tourism site, it has the largest sand slide in China, 100m high with a total length of 800 meters. Sand sliding will give you an adventurous and breathtaking amazing experience. If you slide in a good weather, you can hear a unique sound like the beating of a huge drum, which is called "Tolling Bells in the Golden Sand".

Afterwards, you can float along the Yellow River on a sheepskin raft, which is the oldest river crossing instrument of China. It needs some courage because the raft has no deck or collision bulkhead.

Besides, it has other amusement games. For example, you can pass through the attractive desert scenery riding on a camel or corss the Yellow River by cableway.

Tips:

1. The Yellow River big carp is a must;

2. Students and soldiers can get discount; over 70-aged people and journalists are free;

3. The Yellow River Drift and Sand Slide need extra money.

Hours: 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Admission: 90 yuan (entrance ticket)

How to get there: 1. By Bus: take special line at Zhongwei Bus Station, buses run every 30 minutes;

2. Self-drive: Head West from downtown of Zhongwei City and drive along Yingbin Avenue.
