Former Ningxia vice chairman sentenced to life for bribery

Li Tangtang, the former vice chairman of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, was sentenced to life in prison Friday by the No. 5 Intermediate People's Court of Chongqing for taking bribes worth more than 7.68 million yuan (US$1.16 million).

According to the verdict, Li, 56, abused his high positions in Shaanxi Province between 1998 and 2009 to help 14 companies and individuals profit from development projects, corporate land use approvals, project contracts and job arrangements.

Li became vice chairman of Ningxia in May 2008 and was removed from office in October 2009. Before that, he was Shaanxi's vice governor from April 2006 to May 2008.
