Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is leading the country with its uniform signs aimed at improving its rural environment. The signs are designed to help to protect water source in rural areas, control pollution from livestock breeding, and designate rural locations for processing waste water and for waste collection.

A total of 1,395 such signboards have been erected in the region's Yellow River-front zone, villages for relocated residents and the mountainous region in the south.
