Deputy Mayor Zhang Li of Wuzhong City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, unveiled plans to bid for the title of National Charity City this year and said he hopes to win the bid next year.

Last August, the Ministry of Civil Affairs released the China City Philanthropy Indexes in a bid to improve public confidence in charities.

The indexes, called the "Loving GDP of a City," feature a comprehensive evaluation of a city's philanthropy based on six main categories: A city's social donations to charitable organizations, charity projects, volunteer services, governmental support and charity culture.
