Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region cracked down on 2,676 crimes concerning wildlife to have rescued 11,000 wild animals and released them back to the wild in the past six years, according to the regional Forest Public Security Bureau.

Starting from 2006, the Bureau launched a campaign on fighting against illegal activities that cause damage to wildlife in the region, including alien smuggling of sakers in southern mountainous area, illegal hunting of migratory birds along the Yellow River running through the region and illegal capturing of wild animals in Helan Mount, Liupan Mount, Luo Mount and other national nature reserves.

The region's lakes and wetlands along the Yellow River is a main passageway for wild birds' migration. Nearly one million birds of over 100 species pass by Ningxia and more than 100,000 migratory birds choose to stay in region.
