The Department of Environmental Protection of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region has recently submitted an application to the State Council via the regional government with regard to the region's Huoshizhai geopark's bidding for the status of National Nature Reserve.

After years of protection and development, the geopark's distinctive ecosystem gets restored, providing a favorable environment for the existence and evolvement of different species, according to the department.

The geopark is renowned for its unique Danxia landform, featuring red-colored sandstones and conglomerates that have been eroded over time into a series of mountains surrounded by curvaceous cliffs and unusual rock formations.
