The smart city features full coverage of wireless broadband access networks in urban area through new generation of broadband mobile communications and wireless local area network access technologies. It provides information services for governments, companies, residents and tourists anytime, anywhere.

So far, more than 400 cities in the world have realized full coverage of wireless networks. In 2011, China began the development of its own smart cities. In September of the year, China Mobile and Ningxia government signed a framework agreement for a joint effort to develop a Yellow River-front smart city group in the region.
