Kite fans on cloud nine at Ningxia tournament

On April 13th, the 4th International Kite Invitational Tournament kicked off as more than 100 domestic and international kite enthusiasts gathered at the Helan Mountain Cliff Paintings scenic spot in Ningxia.

Duo Yongyi, director of the Yinchuan Sports Bureau, introduced the tournament as a multi-activity kite exhibition, featuring kite exhibitions, kite flying performances and kite flying competitions.

Exhibition attendees were equally enthusiastic. “Flying kites not only offers us an opportunity to be close to nature but also can train hand-eye-brain coordination ability,” said Ahmad, a kite lover from Sudan, adding that kite flying harder than it seems. He also said that he had made many Chinese friends through flying kites.

Kite flying is a traditional Chinese sport which has its origins in China's historical Spring and Autumn Period (770 BC-475 BC) and was used to transmit information before eventually becoming a leisure pursuit.
