The Ningxia Photovoltaic Industry Zone will be constructed from 2015 to 2020 step by step, according to a government working conference held by Liu Hui, Chairman of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, on November 16.

During the “13th Five-Year Plan” Period (2016-2020), the installed capacity of photovoltaic power plants in Ningxia is expected to total 10 million kilowatt-hours. Centering on PV industry, clusters of emerging industries will be fostered with a gross investment volume of over 100 billion yuan.

Ningxia boasts a maximum solar power development capacity of 20 million kilowatt-hours. With the great support from the government, PV power plants installed capacity in Ningxia has reached 2.62 million kilowatt-hours, ranking 7th nationwide, until September in 2015.

The Industry Zone Planning, in accordance with the national instructions on establishing new energies demonstration zones, will attach importance to mechanism innovation, application of advanced technologies, and comprehensive utilization of new energies. According to the plan, up to 2020, non-hydroelectric renewable power supply will account for over 20 percent of the power consumption in Ningxia, and new energies over 15 percent of primary energy sources consumption. Carbon dioxide emission will be driven down from its peak before 2025, reaching the emission reduction goal five years ahead of the whole nation.
