12 European panda fans arrived in Xichang, the capital city of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province, on August 7.
The panda fans had great fun in the "Moon City," which is well-known for its rich tourism resources and unique ethnic minority culture.
They visited Liangshan Yi Slavery Society Museum, experienced the Yi people's culture at the Greater Liangshan Ethnic Minority Culture and Creative Industry Zone, and attended the opening ceremony of the 7th (Liangshan) International Yi Minority Torch Festival. They also paid a visit to Qionghai, the largest wetland park in China.
The panda fans, together with famous cultural celebrities and reporters from home and abroad, kicked off a special two-month road trip from Europe to Sichuan, home to the Giant Panda, on June 11. They are selected from six European countries, including the UK, France, Spain, Germany, Belgium and Austria.
The Sichuan Provincial Tourism Bureau launched the lage-scale tourism promotion activity --"Travel the Southern Silk Road, Visit the Homeland of Panda-European Panda Fans Travel to Sichuan" -- in November 2014.
The self-drive team, which consists of 40 members, covered about 21,000 kilometers across 14 countries along the Southern Silk Road before arriving in Chengdu in August.
On their way to Sichuan, a full range of activities were held, including a full array of tourism promotion activities and panda-themed cultural exchange activities.
The panda fans have so far visited Chengdu, Ya'an and Panzhihua cities in Sichuan.
