Water-Releasing Festival attracts attention abroad

The grand event was broadcast on giant outdoor screens at New York's Times Square and Seoul's Gwanghwamun Plaza.
A total of around 400 tourists from more than 30 countries and regions watched a spectacular landscape show which recreates scenes of the harnessing of the Minjiang River in ancient times and commemorates Li Bing, the provincial governor who built the world-renowned Dujiangyan Irrigation System in the upper reaches of the river in 256 B.C..
The irrigation system effectively turned the frequently flooded Chengdu Plain into a "land of abundance."
The ceremony was simultaneously broadcast live online in ten languages, including Chinese, English, French and Russian.
