The fantasy adventure film, which is to be distributed in 3D and IMAX, will focus on a golden mask excavated at the ruins in Guanghan City and the mysterious culture behind it.

The film, with a total investment of US$20 million, will be released in 2019.

The film crew includes a Hollywood director and noted collaborators, said Yao Xiaoming, executive producer of the film.

Large numbers of artifacts unearthed at Sanxingdui reveal an ancient culture dating back between 3,000 and 5,000 years.

The 12-square-kilometer historic site was named one of China's top 10 archaeological discoveries of the 20th century.
