Liu Yongxiang, mayor of Zigong City in Sichuan Province, announced that the 23th Zigong International Dinosaur Lantern Festival will kick off on January 22. The festival will run for more than one month.

Zigong, a city famous for its dinosaur fossils, lanterns and well salt, will host at least 100 lantern festivals in 100 cities across the wolrd in the next five years, aiming to make Zigong Lantern Fair a global celebration, said Liu.

Zigong will take lanterns as a carrier to promote cultural exchanges between itself and countries along the Belt and Road routes.

It is also released that Zigong lanterns will light up the venue of the G20 Summit in Hamburg in July 2017.

The event was jointly hosted by the Information Office of Sichuan Provincial People's Government, Sichuan Provincial People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Zigong Municipal People's Government.
