Face-changing of Sichuan Opera staged on UN Chinese Language Day

The 2017 UN Chinese Language Day was observed on May 8 in Vienna, a couple of days before the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing opened. Centering on Silk Road culture, the event is a grand international cultural gala of great significance both in history and in reality by displaying the culture and history along the Belt and Road.

UN Chinese Language Day was proposed by the UN in 2010 and is observed every year in New York, Geneva and Vienna. It is intended to help diplomatic envoys of UN member states and UN’s employees understand the time-honored Chinese language and the colorful Chinese culture.

Chengdu Federation of Literary and Art Circles, as one of the undertakers of event activities, organized an Experience Chengdu photo exhibition on the occasion.

Oriental Jasmine Girls Band staged an amazing performance for participants.

In the evening, a concert called Experience Chengdu also organized by Chengdu Federation of Literary and Art Circles was given in Vienna. Vocalist Ma Xuanzi, Sichuan Qingyin inheritor Ren Ping, face-changing of Sichuan Opera and folk music playing deeply impressed the audience.

Shi Zhongjun, Permanent Representative of China to the UN and other International Organization in Vienna, highly praised Chengdu, an important city along the Belt and Road, for its active participation in the UN Chinese Language Day activities.
