Chengdu museums receives 150,000 visitors on International Museum Day

“56,000 visitors!”a staff member at Jinsha Site Museum, exclaimed when counting up the number of its visitors on May 18, the International Museum Day. “It is several times that of the slack season!”

To celebrate the day, many museums in Chengdu, including Jinshan Site Museum, Zhuge Liang Ancestral Hall Musuem, Du Fu Thatched Cottage and Yongling Museum opened for free and planned colorful activities, attracting 150,000 visitors.

A little after 8:00 that day, a 300-meter-long queue of visitors were already seen waiting for entrance outside the Jinsha Site Museum.

The museum, both the Jinsha Site and the exhibition hall, was packed with visitors throughout that day. “Such a crowd was seen only at the Jinsha Sun Festival during the Spring Festival before,” staff member Tao Xiaoli said.

The Zhuge Liang Ancestral Hall Museum, featuring culture of the Three Kingdoms, was also quite popular, receiving over 60,000 visitors. A lecture by Fang Beichen, a professor of history and culture at Sichuan University, on famous generals of Three Kingdoms, also attracted a big audience.
