The second phase of the Chengdu Subway Line 4 starts trial operation on June 2.

With the completion of the second phase, the operational stretch of the line has reached 21 kilometers, starting at Xihe Township in Longquanyi District in the east and ends in Wenjiang District in the west. A single trip costs 69 minutes.

In addition to the extension of line 4, Chengdu will furthermore open two new subway lines this year.

The second phase of line 4 comprised the eastward extension of the first phase and the westward extension with altogether 14 stations. Stations along the westward extension are: Machangba, Fenghuang Street, Yongquan, Guanghua Park, Nanxun Street, Fengxihe, Yangliuhe and Wangsheng. Stations along the eastward extension are: Huaishudian, Lailong, Shiling, Chengdu University, Shuwang Mausoleum and Xihe. Huaishudian and Fengxihe are transfer stations to line 7 and 17 respectively.

During the trial run, operational time is from 6:10 to 22:50 with a minimum interval of three minutes and ten seconds.

To make it easier to reach the new stations, bicycle sheds have been built outside many stations along the westward extension. Besides, Chengdu’s transportation bureau will open 11 new bus lines and re-route 14, increasing the number of bus lines to stations of the second phase of line 4 to 51 and the number of stations 150 meters or less away from the stations to 64.

In addition, 13 bus lines passing through Wenjiang District, Yongning Township, Wanchun Township, Hesheng Township, Luodai Township, Hongan Township, Huangtu Township, Xihe Township and Shiling where passenger traffic is heavy will end daily service at the same time with subway stations.

A highlight of the second phase of line 4 is its decoration which features distinctive local culture. All major stations have their own distinct designs that embody certain cultural elements.

Currently, Chengdu has 508 kilometers of urban transit lines approved and more mileages to be submitted for approval.

Construction and debugging of new lines or extension lines have accelerated.

Subway and tramcar lines under construction this year in Chengdu will reach 450 kilometers, of which 71 kilometers of subway lines will be completed this year.

The first phase of line 10 and line 7 will be put into use on a trial basis in September and December this year respectively, increasing the total length in operation to 179 kilometers. Average daily passenger traffic is expected to exceed three million.

Chengdu plans to have over 600 kilometers of subway lines in operation by 2022.
