A Spring Festival couplet writing activity was held at the Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum in Chengdu, Sichuan on Feb. 5.

Local calligraphers, young calligraphy learners and expats interested in Chinese calligraphy wrote Spring Festival couplets on the site, which were appreciated by attending local citizens and visitors in Chengdu.

A calligraphy show was also staged at the museum on the same day, displaying the 100 best Spring Festival couplets, shortlisted from 1,000 entries submitted to a Spring Festival couplets competition in the capital city of Sichuan. The show is scheduled to run till March 11.

Calligrapher Deng Daikun, who headed the expert panel responsible for selecting outstanding submissions in the competition, said that the event proved to be popular and they found many talented calligraphers among the locals.

The competition is part of a program aimed to boost exchange among all local residents through the Spring Festival couplets tradition. The program has seen 800 calligraphy enthusiasts write Spring Festival couplets for their neighbors and fellow townsmen and 20,000 households receive Spring Festival couplets as New Year's gifts.
