Thrill-seeking drivers take note: You are invited to challenge the world's most dangerous mountain road.
The route that climbs up Tianmen Mountain, a scenic spot located in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in central China's Hunan Province, will be open for challengers starting Friday, China News Service reported on Wednesday, citing the park administration.
Known as 'the number one road spectacle under Heaven,' the road deters most drivers with 99 hairpin turns zigzagging along the 11-kilometer route, and a sharp ascent of nearly 1,000 meters.
Since its completion in 2005, park officials have primarily allowed professional drivers working for the national park on the road.
To prepare the road for challengers, the Tianmen tourism administration has applied protective coating at risky spots. Before being allowed on the road, drivers will be asked to sign a pact promising not to speed.
However, the report didn't mention whether drivers would get insurance against accidents.
