Authorities have begun dealing with the aftermath, which includes medical treatment for survivors, compensating bereaved families, and investigating the cause of the incident.

The country's deadliest mine disaster in a year killed at least seventy four, and injured 114 others.

To the relief of the survivors' families, almost all the injured showed good signs of recovery. A senior health official says most are expected to make a full recovery within three weeks. Twenty-one of the twenty six seriously injured are in stable condition. And five others previously in critical condition are also improving.

The mining company says the compensation fee for each dead miner will be at least two hundred thousand yuan. And since all of the workers are insured, they should receive money from the insurance company as well.
